Apologies: Terry Meacham, Alan Harrison

The meeting was opened at 7:05 PM.

The minutes from last meeting were read and agreed too be a true reflection of that meeting. Proposed Geraldine Slade and Seconded Carl Cheetham.

Matters Arising

  • The raffle is up and running week to week, but takings have been very slow.
  • With regards to the plumbing more work needed to be done. The smell has gone away for now but could come back.
  • With regards to the Tote we’ve had another incident. It was agreed that the last call is who wins, and any late callers unfortunately will have to miss out.
  • Terry wasn’t here to clarify what he’s done so far with regards to an open mic night.

Chairwoman’s Report

  • Mrs Stollery has had another question about the minutes. These are available in the office from the administrator but she feels that for the sake of transparency that we should have a copy behind the bar that people can read at their leisure. It was agreed that rather than do this we will add a copy of a redacted version of the minute to the website. The redacted parts will relate only to any staffing issues and pay as that information is data sensitive.
  • We had a request from Gwent Hockey Club for three teams to use the club as their base on a Saturday afternoon. We unfortunately had to effectively turn them down as there simply isn’t any room parking wise for them to realistically gain access to the club at that time on a Saturday given the number of teams that play here.
  • Rhys will be sorting the numbers board ready for Christmas. This will be drawn on Christmas Eve. The weekly raffle accumulator will be drawn on Boxing Day.
  • Halloween was somewhat quiet. We brought down pumpkins but only one was used.

Membership Update

We now have 312 members

Administrators Report

  • Bookings in the hall are dire at present
  • The fire certificate for the year has been sorted

The following has been agreed for Christmas opening hours:

24th 12-2
25th 11-1
26th 12-2
27th 7-11
28th 7-11
29th 7-11:30
30th 1-11:30
31st 12-1
1st 7-11
2nd 7-11

Christmas price reductions – we will have the usual reduced prices over the period of the 24th to 31st December. There will be no other promotions in December as a consequence. On New Year’s Eve at 7 o’clock drinks will actually drop to £1. Notices will need to be placed up to note that this will be a member’s night only and open to over 18’s only after 7. There were no volunteers to run the night, but Zoe is happy to do some sorting. It will be bring your own food as will Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve will also be Christmas jumper night.

  • Pontnewydd Male Voice Choir had enquired about booking the hall on 2 December, but we actually offered them the use of the club for free if they so wish.
  • There is no bar committee report this month.

Suggestion Box

  • There has been a further request for a jukebox. The reasons given in the last meeting still apply. The previous jukebox didn’t make enough money to cover the cost of having it there. At some point we hope to update our sound system and when that’s done hopefully people will be able to play playlists from their phones etc.
  • A new committee. People are given the chance to put their voices forward every year, yet few volunteer. Those that complain the loudest are unwilling to actively put in any effort to help in the club improve.
  • A larger pool cupboard. Most on the committee felt that this was unnecessary, as members should not leave the cue in the club and as such should not be an issue with having the space available.
  • Open mic night. This is something that Terry is already looking into.
  • That we should do more in terms of making the club welcoming for youngsters particularly the pool and football. The decor needs work, we could serve food and have family nights. It was agreed that these are all relevant points but until we know what’s happening with the building we can’t really spend the members money.

Negotiations are ongoing with the community council.

Meeting closed at 8:30 PM

Next meeting will take place on Tuesday, 5 December
